Courtesy of ENEA, the applicator was originally designed for the rapid processing of paper-like loads. It couples 2450 MHz microwaves with hot air (impingement air), with a multiple pass tray simulating a much longer applicator.

The meander applicator can be terminated both with a short circuit (resonant applicator) or with a perfectly coupled load. In this case, it acts as a travelling wave applicator. Look at what happens simulating only two passes inside the applicator!
